Albion made it three wins on the trot at Blackburn with a dominant performance but surrendered top spot on goal difference to Fulham.
The last time a Baggies side had more points from the opening four games was in 1992 when Ardiles’ side won their opening five games of the season in the third tier. The only other occasion that has happened since the Second World War was in 1947 when Albion won the first four matches although ultimately faded and failed to win promotion.
The eleven goals that Ismaël’s side have scored in four games has only been bettered once by an Albion side this century. Darren Moore’s team managed thirteen, largely thanks to a 7-1 thumping of Queen’s Park Rangers in game four.
The 2019/2020 season remains the only 21st century second tier campaign when the Baggies didn’t with their fourth league game of the season, drawing 1-1 with Reading, but this year is the first time that game four has been away from home.
Callum Robinson failed to score for the first time this season, although he was playing off the right side rather than through the middle. Meanwhile, Alex Mowatt made it two goals in two games with a thumping first minute strike joining Dara O’Shea and “own goal” in joint second place in the Baggies scoring charts.
