Albion’s defeat at home to West Ham United on Saturday finally puts paid to the hopes of 50 points this season, and they can now only match the 47 points achieved in 2011 and 2012.
On positive that did come from Saturday is that Norwich’s defeat at Arsenal means that the Baggies are now mathematically safe from relegation. Sunderland can match Albion’s points total but Newcastle cannot so at least three teams will finish below Albion this season. A seventh successive season in the Premier League beckons.
