Albion’s Premier League Season Comparison – 27 games

Albion were unfortunate to lose against Everton and it leaves them nine points from safety having played a game more than Newcastle United. The Toon are, of course, next up at the Hawthorns on Sunday.

I’ve mentioned the statistic about the Baggies having not won a Premier League game on a Tuesday, well they’ve not won one on a Thursday either, albeit this was only their fifth attempt.

Robson’s team managed a 0-0 draw with relegation rivals, Southampton, in game 27 in 2004/05 to move on to 18 points, while back in 1986, Nobby Stiles side lost 3-0 at home to Chelsea with David Speedie, Jerry Murphy and Pat Nevin scoring for the visitors. That left Albion on just 13 points from 27 games 10 points behind 19th-placed, Oxford United, outside the relegation zone in the 22 team division.

Incidentally, game 27 for the Baggies in 2012 was the 1-0 win over Chelsea that proved to be André Villas-Boas’s last match in charge of the Blues. Former Albion boss, Roberto di Matteo, was put in caretaker charge and went on to guide them to the Champions League trophy that summer.
