Albion’s Premier League Season Comparison – 19 games

Despite a narrow defeat at West Ham, this season’s Baggies are still a point better off the team that pulled off the Great Escape at the halfway stage.

The Baggies’ Tuesday hoodoo continues – they have never won on a Tuesday in the Premier League and this latest defeat makes it 31 games, and with game 32 coming next week against Manchester City, not many would bet on it ending then!

Looking towards the remainder of the season, the most points an Albion side has achieved in second half of a Premier League campaign is 25 doing so in 2010/11 and 2011/12 under Roy Hodgson on both occasions. In 2004/05, Bryan Robson’s team earned 24 points in the second half of the campaign to survive.

That season, game 20 was away to Manchester City and a Richard Dunne own goal that Robert Earnshaw desperately tried to get a touch on was enough to earn the Baggies an undeserved point, a result that arguably kick-started the season after a run of five successive defeats. This time around, it’s City again and this time at the Hawthorns – the Citizens may be a different level of challenge these days, but I’d take an undeserved point or three!
