An eighth defeat in twelve games leaves Albion still in 19th place and two points behind their previous worse Premier League start in 2005/06.
On that occasion, game 13 proved lucky for the Baggies as they beat Everton 4-0 including a brace from Nathan Ellington. That gave hope, ultimately unfulfilled, that Bryan Robson’s side could survive a third successive season in the Premier League. The chances of this season’s team repeating that result would seem extremely slim given the opposition.
The start to this campaign is now the second worst in Albion’s history with the 1985/86 season when game 12 saw Nobby Stiles’s team earn a second successive draw to earn just their third point of the season, and their first away from home. A Garth Crooks double put the Baggies 2-0 up at Filbert Street but Leicester City came back to draw thanks to goals from Alan Smith and Steve Lynex.
