An injury time winner for Huddersfield Town ended Albion’s unbeaten home record this season and handed the Terriers their first victory of the season.
John Swift scored in successive games for the first time since he moved to the Hawthorns, and they are his first non-penalty goals since January. It’s the first time that he has scored three goals in four games since September 2021 when he scored his only career hat trick when playing for Reading in a 3-3 draw with QPR.
The Baggies’ record from the opening five games, six points from three home games and one point from two away games, is exactly the same as that achieved by Gary Megson’s 2001/02 team who were, of course, promoted at the end of the season.
It is the first time since the second tier moved to 24 teams that Albion have lost game five at home and, when they return to football after the international break, they will be defending a record of not having lost the sixth game of a second tier season since 1998.
