Albion’s Second Tier Season Comparison – 41 games

The Baggies let a two goal lead slip at Stoke, albeit one they probably didn’t deserve, but nevertheless extended their unbeaten run to nine games and their undefeated streak away from home to seven. It was Albion’s third successive draw and, this time, the chasing pack did take advantage with Norwich City and Coventry City both beating sides challenging for automatic promotion. The Baggies are now only two points ahead of the Canaries in sixth, and six ahead of the Sky Blues in seventh, but they have a game in hand. Middlesbrough and Hull City also both won and they are a further two points behind Coventry.

It was the first time that Carlos Corberán’s team had let a two goal lead slip for almost a year, the previous occasion coming in the home game with QPR on Easter Monday last season.

It is Albion’s longest league unbeaten run since the start of the 2021/22 campaign when Valérien Ismaël’s team were undefeated for the first ten games of the season. It is the longest unbeaten run in all competitions since Slaven Bilić’s team went fourteen games unbeaten up to Boxing Day 2019.

Although the rebound was scored, Alex Palmer can record a penalty save to his name, his first for Albion, and only his third in his entire career. The other two both came in the same game when he was on loan at Kidderminster Harriers away to Barrow – the match finished 1-1.
