John Swift’s penalty earned the Baggies a valuable point at Millwall to keep them three points clear of sixth spot and seven clear of the play-off chasers albeit Coventry City in seventh do have a game in hand.
It’s hardly surprising that Albion didn’t win given the fact that they have only won twice at Millwall since 1946 and, according the BBC website, haven’t won on Good Friday for 94 years, a run of 21 matches.
John Swift, however, seems to like Good Friday having netted a penalty in each of his Good Friday matches for Albion, although it was in defeat at Rotherham United last season.
Game 40 has produced some memorable moments in past seasons. Back in 2002, Bob Taylor headed home after the ‘keeper saved Neil Clement’s free kick at the City Ground to earn Gary Megson’s team a crucial three points against Nottingham Forest, while Albion finally appeared to be finding their form in Project Restart in July 2020 when a Matheus Pereira double helped them to a 3-0 win at Hillsborough to keep them five points clear of Brentford.
