I’m not quite ready to re-introduce the “promotion challenge” moniker just yet, but if Albion can repeat that level of performance in every game remaining this season, the top six is within reach.
However, they are still nine points worse off than any other second tier Albion side this century, and have scored four fewer goals than even Megson’s goal shy team. Seven points from three games, two of which were against sides in the top three, is an excellent return but they need to keep that up for the remainder of the season, and then some.
Game 37 has been kind to the Baggies in the Championship in the past few seasons having not conceded a goal in that match since 2008. Before tonight’s match, the previous three were against Swansea City with the match in 2020 being Albion’s final match before the lockdown for the pandemic.
