Albion’s wait for an away win finally came to an end after an excellent second half performance produced three goals and three points at Plymouth Argyle. The result was essential to keep them in fifth place as Hull City pulled off a shock away win at Southampton and remain just one point behind the Baggies ahead of this weekend’s massive match between the sides.
Albion have 55 points from their 33 games which is still seven points better off than last season and level with Tony Mowbray’s title winning team from 2008. No Baggies side from our comparison seasons has failed to make the playoffs having achieved at least 55 points from the first 33 games.
The Baggies travelled to Hull City in game 34 last season, and were beaten 2-0, while back in 1996, the only hat trick of Bob Taylor’s Albion career was not enough to beat Watford after game 34 finished 4-4 after the Hornets scored twice in the last five minutes.
