Albion’s Second Tier Season Comparison – 26 games

A stoppage time equaliser from Joe Allen denied Albion the three points their performance deserved and prolonged their wait for back-to-back wins that now stands at 20 games. It also makes it 13 draws from 26 games keeping them on track to match the Football League record of 23 in a league campaign.

After a slow start to the game in which both sides seemed to be struggling to get to grips with the playing surface, Albion dominated the second half of the first period creating some excellent opportunities but failed to take the lead. After Tom Fellows did give the visitors the lead, his first Albion goal of the season, the Baggies defended the lead well until Allen popped up with the sucker punch. Disappointing though the result was, it is only the tenth time that an Albion team have come away from a match at Swansea undefeated

It would have been good to see Albion continue to attack to find the second and maybe leave the likes of Maja and Johnston on the field but, after the hectic festive period, there were obvious signs of fatigue and you can understand the approach taken, and it almost worked.

This season’s team are only two points behind Corberán’s team from the last campaign so remain on track for the top six but they need to make use of the transfer window to bring in some better quality options for the bench if they are to maintain the promotion push.
