Albion’s winning run came to an end at Coventry City as Viktor Gyökeres’ stoppage time penalty earned all three points for the Sky Blues leaving the Baggies in 16th place still five points off the play-offs and five points above the bottom three.
Since the 2-0 defeat to Sheffield United in Corberán’s opening game, the two goals that Albion have conceded have both been penalties, although they were fortunate not to have conceded earlier in the game at the CBS Arena.
It brings Albion to the halfway point in the season and there is no doubt that they will need a significantly better return from the second half of the season if they are to challenge for a play-off spot. In 2019/20, Slaven Bilić’s team had 50 points at the halfway point and it is that sort of return that Corberán’s team need if they are to finish in the top six.
