Carlos Corberán comfortably dispatched second-placed Ipswich Town at the Hawthorns keeping an eighth clean sheet in twelve games against a team that hadn’t failed to score in a match since February.
It moves the Baggies into fifth place in the table with 29 points from 17 games, a tally that matches that achieved by Gary Megson’s 2001/02 promotion-winning team at the same stage, and is just two points behind Tony Mowbray’s title-winning team of 2007/08.
Game 18 has been largely successful for Albion in recent second tier seasons as they have lost that match in just one of their last 14 such campaigns. Two of those were handsome victories – 4-1 at home to Bristol City in 2019 and 4-0 away to Sheffield Wednesday a decade earlier.
