A debut goal from Brandon Thomas-Asante sent the Baggies faithful home happy albeit it was a third successive draw that leaves Steve Bruce’s side firmly in mid-table.
Only once before has an Albion side drawn six of their first eight games of the season – that was Brian Little’s team in 1999/2000 who won the other two games but had scored just nine goals in those first eight games and sat in ninth place in the table.
The point against Burnley means that this is still Albion’s worst start to a second tier season since 1994 when Keith Burkinshaw’s team had just seven points at this stage after a 2-0 home defeat by Portsmouth, leaving them second-bottom of the table.
Steve Bruce’s side have now conceded first in six of their eight games this season, a statistic only matched in the Championship by Millwall who have also gone behind six times, although they have only played seven before Saturday afternoon’s fixtures. That the Baggies have only lost one of those matches means that their points recovery tally is good (0.83 per game) although they are yet to claim all three points from a losing position.
