Another defeat for Shan’s Baggies and hopes of automatic promotion are well and truly dashed.
Only Mowbray’s 2008 team have won promotion with so few points after 41 games, but we all know that was a very low scoring season.
Game 42 for Megson’s 2004 team was particularly memorable. A backs-to-the-wall performance at third-placed Sunderland proved pivotal with Sean Gregan put in an awesome captain’s performance. While a point was all Megson was hoping for, a fantastic late run from a young Lloyd Dyer ended up with a pass and simple finish for Jason Koumas to steal all three points for the Baggies and all but seal automatic promotion.
