Defeat at Millwall means this season’s Baggies are three points behind Gary Megson’s 2002 promotion winning team but still three ahead of Tony Mowbray’s title-winning team of 2008.
We know, of course, that the 81 points that was enough to win the title that season is likely to only secure a play-off spot this time, and everything indicates that Albion will have at least two more games to contest in May.
Albion have only lost game 41 once this century, although given that it was at Stoke back in the Potters’ Pulis era, it is hardly a surprise. Jimmy Shan’s team will need to bounce back well if they are to avoid defeat at Ashton Gate this time around.
