After three straight wins, the Baggies had to settle for a point against Nottingham Forest as they snatched a 91st minute equaliser. Leeds United’s victory over Bristol City means that they have narrowed the gap between the top two to four points, but Albion’s lead over third place is now back up to seven points.
Only Roberto di Matteo’s team had a better record at this stage of the season, albeit only on goal difference, but Bilić’s Baggies are the only Albion team this century to have led the table with 13 games to go.
Only four Baggies sides in history have had more equivalent points from 33 games, the last being Ron Atkinson’s 1978/79 side who had the equivalent of 68 points (48 points at the time) which was good enough for second place in Division One. The last side to lead the table at this stage was Vic Buckingham’s 1953/54 team who also had 48 points from 33 games.
