As their nearest challengers all faltered, Albion made it three successive victories with a 2-1 win at Reading to extend their lead at the top of the table to six points.
Preston North End are the only side in the top six to have won both games this week as their 2-0 win at Stoke City moved them back into the play-off positions, while Birmingham City are the only other side in the division to have won their last three games.
Only six Albion sides in history have a better record than Slaven Bilić’s side after 32 games, with Frank Heaven’s second division title winning side of 1902 leading the way with the equivalent of 72 points.
In 2004, game 33 saw Albion lose at home to Rotherham United, after which they dropped just two points (at Millwall) in their next nine games to secure promotion. Mowbray’s 2008 side also lost game 33 at home to Hull City, but would lose just once more in the league on their way to winning the title.
