The Baggies struggles continue as they failed to find a way past a determined Stoke City defence and succumbed to a second home defeat in three matches at the Hawthorns.
They remain top of the table but are now just five points clear of third place and winless in six Championship games, their longest such run in the second tier since the 12-match streak in 1999/2000 that ultimately led to the sacking of Brian Little and the appointment of Gary Megson.
Roberto di Matteo’s team from a decade ago had the same number of points from 28 games, and a better goal difference, but were in second place where they would eventually finish.
