Filip Krovinović became the 15th player to score for the Baggies this season but his goal was not enough to take all three points as Barnsley grabbed a late, albeit deserved, equaliser.
It means that it’s “as you were” at the top of the Championship as Leeds United also drew 1-1 to leave the Baggies three points clear in first place.
The chasing pack continue to be inconsistent with Brentford the only side in the top nine to record a Boxing Day victory which saw them move up into third place some eight points adrift of the top two.
For Albion, it extends their unbeaten run to 14 games, which is, despite what the official website might claim, is the longest (in all competitions) since the 1978/79 season (19 games). It is the Baggies’ longest unbeaten run in the league since 1957/58 (17), and the longest in the second tier since 1901/02 (also 17). The only Albion sides to have a better record after 24 games were those of 1901/02 and 1919/20, both of whom went on to win the divisional title that season.
