A second successive victory moved Albion to within three points of the top two after Bournemouth were beaten at home by a resurgent Blackburn Rovers who remain just a point behind the Baggies in fourth place.
40 points from 22 games Albion’s fourth best tally in the 21st century and only once have they not been promoted having reached 40 points at this stage.
Valérien Ismaël’s team have remained unbeaten for the first eleven home games, only the third time that any Albion side has done so. Frank Heaven’s side of 1897/98 ultimately went twelve games unbeaten at home from the beginning of the campaign, while Slaven Bilić’s side of two years ago matched this season’s unbeaten home start of eleven matches.
It was also Albion’s tenth clean sheet of the season, a remarkable record that means that they have conceded just 17 goals in their 22 league games this season – that is the lowest total in the Championship and only Rotherham United (15 in one game fewer) have conceded fewer goals in the whole of the EFL.
