After Leeds United scraped a 1-0 win on Tuesday night to take top spot, the Baggies grabbed it back on Wednesday with a thumping 4-1 win over Bristol City.
Those four goals, which could easily have been added to, make Albion the top scorers in the division overtaking Preston North End whom they face in their next match on Monday evening.
With four successive wins each, Albion and Leeds have pulled away from the chasing pack with the Baggies two points clear at the top and third placed Fulham a further five points back although Forest, level on points with the Cottagers, have a game in hand.
Of the 21st century Baggies sides, only Tony Mowbray’s title winning team remained unbeaten for the first nine home games – they didn’t make it ten as they lost their next home game to Coventry City. Only last season’s team scored more goals in their first nine at home, largely thanks to that 7-1 win over QPR!
Conceding just five goals in nine away games is a remarkable statistic for Slaven Bilić’s team – that will be tested as they next visit the only Championship side to have scored more goals at home than Albion this season. Alex Neill’s team have scored 25 goals at Deepdale and remain unbeaten on their own turf.
