Grady Diangana’s first goal for more than a year earned Albion a point to maintain their unbeaten record in another frustrating afternoon for Baggies fans. Diangana’s last goal was the wonderful opener at Goodison Park in September last year.
The point means that Albion have lost more ground to both Fulham and Bournemouth and they are now six points adrift of the automatic promotion places but they remain in third place. Three Albion sides have had a better start this century but it is Albion’s joint best home record from their opening nine games in any of their promotion campaigns in the last 20 years.
Game 18 has been a successful one in Albion’s 21st century promotion campaigns as only once have they failed to win, a 0-0 draw at home to Reading in 2003, and in November 2000 the opposition was the same as this season, Huddersfield Town, and goals from Jordão and Lee Hughes earned Albion the points on that occasion.
