The Baggies moved back to the top of the Championship table with a 4-2 win over Cardiff City.
For the first time this season, they have more points than Di Matteo’s Baggies did in 2009 and their record is second only to Megson’s second promotion team.
Their 21 goals is second best in this season’s Championship, with Preston’s five against Barnsley putting them on 23, while in terms of previous Albion sides since the turn of the century, only Mowbray’s title winning side and Darren Moore’s team had more goals at this stage.
Game 12, which this campaign will be at Middlesbrough in a fortnight, has been successful for Baggies second tier sides recently, with the last four ending in victory. Neil Warnock’s Sheffield United were the last side to have prevented a victory for Albion in their twelfth game back in 2003, which was the last time he managed a winning side at the Hawthorns.
He, of course, suffered defeat as Cardiff manager this weekend, his first at the Shrine since 2001 having drawn on his last two visits, in separate spells as Crystal Palace boss.
