Back in 1994, the last time that the Baggies started a second tier season with such poor results, Keith Burkinshaw’s team lost 3-1 at home to Sunderland in their tenth game of the season, a result that left them with just seven points and rock bottom of the table. The former Spurs boss would last just one more game before being sacked.
For a little hope, we can still look back to that 1975/76 season when game ten saw John Giles’ team draw 0-0 away to Blackburn Rovers to leave them in 17th place with 8 points, the equivalent of 9 points today with 3 points for a win. Games 11 and 12 would produce the Baggies’ second and third wins of the season and they started their march up the table that would see them in the top six by game 17 and promoted at the end of the season.
