A comfortable 4-0 victory at Cardiff was the Baggies’ first in the Welsh capital since 1974 and it extended Albion’s unbeaten start to the league campaign to ten games, a new club record.
This season’s team now have 22 points from 10 games, matching the 21st century record set by Gary Megson’s 2003 team. Only two Albion sides in history have had a better start, when converting to 3-points-for-a-win; in 1953, Vic Buckingham’s side that would be dubbed the “Team of the Century” had an equivalent of 23 points while the title winning side of 1919/20 recorded eight wins and two defeats from their opening ten games, an equivalent of 24 points.
A fourth clean sheet of the season means the Baggies have conceded just 8 goals in the league this campaign, the lowest total from at this stage since Megson’s 2001 side, one of only five Albion sides to have let in fewer than eight goals from their opening ten league matches.
