Albion’s Premier League Season Comparison – 24 games

Game 24 in the Great Escape season saw the Baggies record a crucial victory over Manchester City. This year’s team couldn’t quite manage to get all three points but an unexpected point against the other team from Manchester moves the Baggies onto 13 points.

It is the first time since Boxing Day that the Baggies have conceded less than two goals and only the fourth time this season that they have done so at the Hawthorns.

The point keeps this campaign’s team ahead of the worst Albion side in history. The 1985/86 team also earned a point in game 24, a 1-1 draw away to Aston Villa with Steve Hunt notching a 77th minute equaliser, to move their points tally to 12.

Looking back to the Great Escape season, the 2-0 win over City was Bryan Robson’s first league victory as Baggies boss at the 12th time of asking. It was achieved thanks to by Kevin Campbell and Ronnie Wallwork and moved Albion onto 16 points, five points behind 17th-placed Crystal Palace who were next to visit the Shrine.
