Albion’s Premier League Season Comparison – 21 games

Albion scored their first goals under Sam Allardyce at the Hawthorns and ended a run of five successive home defeats by earning a 2-2 draw with Fulham.

Bryan Robson’s 2004/05 team also drew game 21, 1-1 away to Bolton Wanderers, with Zoltán Gera scoring the equaliser. That meant that they also had 12 points but, despite being bottom of the table, 17th-placed Norwich City were just four points ahead of the Baggies. In this campaign, Brighton have six points more and a game in hand. If there is to be a great escape this season, Sam Allardyce’s team look to have the harder job.

Back in 1985/86, game 21 represented the halfway point of what was then a 42 match campaign, and Nobby Stiles’ team earned a 2-2 draw away to Oxford United. John Aldridge opened the scoring for the hosts from the spot before goals from Steve Hunt and Imre Varadi within two minutes of one another put Albion in front. Jeremy Charles equalised for the Us shortly afterwards and the draw meant that Albion had just eight points and were seven points adrift at the bottom of the table.
