Fifty points seems a distant dream for the Baggies

A few weeks ago, Albion were in with a shout of reaching 50 points in a Premier League season for the first time, but after three successive defeats, that now seems impossible with ten points needed from the last four games.

Tonight’s opponents, Spurs, will be desperate for the points as they attempt to catch Leicester City and win their first league title for 55 years. They know that any slip up and the Foxes will need just one win to clinch the title.

The Baggies dip in form seems to have coincided with reaching 40 points, which suggests to me that Pulis has allowed them to relax on reaching that target. Let’s just hope it is enough as the next point looks hard to get. Newcastle can no longer catch Albion, and Norwich and Sunderland will both need at least nine points from their last four games for the Baggies to be in danger, so Albion should be able to limp to the end of the season in relative comfort.

Albion’s record at Spurs in the Premier League is not bad, having avoided defeat on five of the nine meetings to date, although last season’s 1-0 victory is their only one at White Hart Lane since they won back-to-back visits in 1984.

Team News

Bentaleb is the only player unavailable for Pochettino, while Pulis is still missing Morrison and Brunt. Alex Pritchard is ineligible to play against his parent club even if he were to recover from his ankle injury.

Prediction

The only hope that Albion have in this game is if Spurs are affected by the pressure of having to win, something that they have shown little sign of in recent weeks. The eyes of the world will be on the match tonight, and I hope Albion can put up a flight, but I’m struggling to see beyond a Spurs win.
